Switching Local Carriers

Sunday, November 11th, 2007

My wife and I have had long-distance service through OPEX. We recently
switched our LOCAL phone service from Verizon to Starpower. Since we made
that change we can no longer automatically place long-distance phone calls
from home. We have to dial the OPEX access number. I would like to have
things set up so that we automatically have OPEX as our long-distance
provider. Please let me know if there’s anything else I need to do to
accomplish this. I called Starpower and asked them to implement OPEX as our
long-distance provider, but I was told by the Starpower representative that
I should contact OPEX. I look forward to hearing from you.

John

Dear John,

Email me your account number, and I will take care of it for you.

Thanks,

Greg

Is There A Way To Tell If My Account Has Been Switched?

Friday, October 26th, 2007

If you gave Opex a valid email when you signed up for service, you will get an email from them thanking you for switching to their service and informing you that you are up and running, after you make your first call on their network.Opex will also contact you if there are any problems with you account.

Do I Need A Social Security Number To Switch?

Wednesday, October 24th, 2007

Does Opex require a social security number to sign up for a long distance account?

Thanks,

Michael

Dear Michael,

You do if you sign up for a regular account that is billed monthly, but Opex offers prepaid long distance, and it is about the only long distance carrier I know of that doesn’t require a SSN. If you do sign up for their prepaid service, you also save an additional 8% off of their long distance rates. I used to have their prepaid service on one of my phones, and it was fine quality and I did save some money going that way.

Thanks,

Greg

How Long Does Provisioning Usually Take?

Monday, October 22nd, 2007

Provisioning is the switchover from your old long distance carrier to your new one, Opex. This usually takes between 4 and 10 days, depending on the load at all of the telephone companies involved.

What happens, is that the order is received and forwarded to the correct department at Opex. They then take the order, look at who the baby bell is in your area, and then forward your information on to them to have them set up your account. Once that company has the account set up under Opex’s name, then your local phone company is contacted and asked to switch your long distance account’s routing information from your old long distance carrier to Opex. Once your local phone company gets that switched over, your calls are routed over Opex instead of your old LD company. (Now you know why it takes more than a day. LOL)

How Do I Find Out If I’m Signed Up?

Saturday, October 20th, 2007

Hi , this is Kathy,

I think I just signed up for Opex long distance and local service but I am not sure. How do I find out if I am signed up and if I am signed up when does it take effect. When do I cancel my other phone services (long distance and local).

Dear Kathy,

I can see that you did sign up for service, now you just need to wait for the order to get provisioned.

It usually takes opex around 4-7 days for your service to be switched from your old carrier to Opex. Once your lines are switched, you will receive an email from Opex thanking you for making your first call on their system. They are very good about sending you emails if they need to give you information or have you do anything to complete your order, so make sure you read all the emails they send.

Now, remember, Opex isn’t your local carrier, but they will carry your local long distance calls as well as all your other long distance calls, so you can’t cancel your local service. I’ve had people cancel their local service before, and that shuts down their whole phone system, including long distance.

You can try checking on your order early next week at MyOpexInfo.com.

Thanks,

Greg
